The Club's origin seems to stem from a "Perth Yacht and Boat Club" which was active in the 1870s and which in 1880 secured approval to build a jetty at the foot of William Street in Perth Water. This was the first yachting structure in W.A. In 1890, the Perth Yacht Club received the Royal Charter. The premises were shifted to Crawley in 1953 when the William Street site became untenable.
